As there are no forests in Venice, the term in Venetian dialect for “foreigner” is “foresto/a” or “someone from the forest”.

Kaethe Kauffman meditates on the unseen systems of forest growth as well as on memories of the calm, steady presence of individual trees throughout her life. Her most recent series of prints on paper and silk not only explore the individuality and spirit of trees combined with the physical movement of walking through nature but then captures this sensation with the meditative movements of drawing. These artworks, in turn, are transformed into prints on silk banners and on paper mounted onto wood panels. The lightweight fabric installations act as thin veils of consciousness. The installation of 20 prints mounted onto woodblocks re-combine into a larger mural until the image of individual trees is subsumed into a collective vision.
About the Artist:
Kaethe Kauffman was born in Cheverly, Maryland and grew up in Seattle.
A long-time practitioner of yoga and body movement, Kaethe Kauffman has been the subject of solo exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad including the Rensselaer Newman Foundation, Troy, NY; Allen Gallery, Memphis, TN; Lichtundfire Gallery and Walter Wickiser Gallery in NYC, NY; Joyce Goldstein Gallery, Chatham, NY; Banco Gallery, Bethlehem, PA; University of Nebraska, Omaha; Berry College, Mount Berry, GA; Czech Museum of Fine Arts, Prague; the Sierra Arts Foundation Gallery, Reno, NV and Castello 925, Venice, IT on the occasion of the 59th Venice Biennale.

Kaethe Kauffman medita sui sistemi invisibili di crescita delle foreste e sui ricordi della presenza calma e stabile dei singoli alberi per tutta la sua vita.
La sua serie più recente di stampe su carta e seta non solo esplora l'individualità e lo spirito degli alberi combinati con il movimento fisico del camminare nella natura, ma cattura questa sensazione con i movimenti meditativi del disegno. Queste opere, a loro volta, si trasformano in stampe su stendardi di seta e su carta montate su pannelli di legno. Le installazioni in tessuto leggero agiscono come sottili veli di coscienza. L'installazione di 20 stampe montate su blocchi di legno si ricombina in un murale più grande finché l'immagine dei singoli alberi non viene inclusa in una visione collettiva.

Castello 925 è una galleria multidisciplinare che funge da crogiolo per le arti visive, la letteratura e la cultura. Il fondatore Luca Caldironi ha immaginato uno spazio dedicato alla creatività, o meglio alla cre-attività.
