Virtual Visit: Christy Rupp & Scott Volz in Conversation. Hosted by the Climate Futures Collective (University of California, Irvine).
Christy Rupp and Scott Volz discuss Rupp's life and work as an eco-artist and activist along with her new book, Noisy Autumn: Sculpture and Works on Paper (Mandala publishing 2021).
Since the 1970s, Christy Rupp has investigated the intersections of ecology, animal life, and capitalist violence. Her research-based work in two- and three-dimensional media explores ongoing issues of environmental deterioration, plastic pollution, climate change, mass extinction, and the impact of waste materials on animal species and ecosystems. Using irony, humor, and techniques of visual pleasure, Rupp's figurative sculptures and works on paper transform petrocultural, commercial, and geopolitical objects and imagery into visually sophisticated warnings about the multiscalar degradation of socio-ecological systems.
Rupp will be speaking with Scott Volz (PhD Candidate, Visual Studies) about her long history of ecological art-making and activism. The event will be hosted by the Climate Futures Collective (CFC) at the University of California, Irvine. Bios & Zoom link below
