WORKSHOP with Kaethe Kauffman Limited availability 🕠28th October, 5:30 pm
Castello 925,
Fondamenta S. Giuseppe, 925,
Venice, VE, 30122, Italy
Since the '90s, Kaethe Kauffman has worked with the female body studying and documenting its movement and creating from this performative process, a series of abstracted images . Her work, inspired by the practice of yoga, investigates the theme of freedom by dismantling the idea of the objectification of women's bodies. Using a string dipped in paint, the artist ties the filament around a hand, knee, elbow, or torso, and when the body part is flexed, the movement is recorded as an off-printing. In Kauffman’s art, the body writes itself upon its own skin in a ritual of self-revelation. This act of marking and exposure is documented by Kauffman’s photographic images, which are digitally repeated and colored, drawn upon by hand in a variety of media and the vibrant results are printed on silk much like the large banners found in Buddhist temples. In an expansion of the body’s own “speech” through movement, Kaethe Kauffman’s images combine into larger fields of replication and mirroring, until the individual body is subsumed into a larger vision.
During this workshop you will have the opportunity to become a model for the artist and participate in her creative process. If you would like to partecipate, send an email to galleria@castello925.com with the name, surname and number of participants to make your reservation
